Gail Bemis
Children's Director
Gail Bemis was born and raised in Tifton, Georgia. She earned her undergraduate degree in education from the University of Georgia and her Master’s degree from Georgia State University. She moved to Covington in 1980 and accepted a job with the Newton County Board of Education. She completed 36 years of teaching before retiring in 2015.
In 1986, she married her husband Jeff and they have two sons, Daniel, 28 and Matthew 25. They have three dogs, two cats, and two chinchillas. She is a true animal lover and she has raised her fair share of strays and baby everything.
She loves to travel, go on mission trips and meet new people. She likes to learn new things, especially anything related to construction or home improvement. Sewing and crafts are a couple of her hobbies. She likes to ride bicycles and enjoys being outside.
She has always loved working with children, so no one was surprised when she became a teacher. She has always been very passionate about teaching and has loved every minute spent with children. She always wondered when she would know when it was time to retire, but in 2015 God made it crystal clear! She didn’t know exactly what He had in store, but she trusted Him to show her the way. In 2016 the children’s director position at Zion became available and she knew God was calling her to fill it. She absolutely LOVES working with the children at Zion!
